In addition to our regular Opera House Series, we are excited to showcase a variety of rental events ranging from music and movies to special performances and private bookings. Please note that the events listed on this page are rentals and not part of the Sumter Opera House's official series. As such, they are not eligible for membership discounts and may be organized in collaboration with other events taking place throughout Historic Downtown Sumter.

Miss Libby's LEGENDS
March 8 - multiple times

Join us for Miss Libby's annual dance recital, LEGENDS! This exciting show will celebrate iconic singers and performers from past to present.  Our dancers will bring these legends to life with vibrant choreography, dazzling costumes, and heartfelt energy. It is a fun-filled, unforgettable event for the whole family.

A Night of Short Stories & Poems March 27 at 7:30 PM

This theatrical performance breathes new life into nine different short stories and poems by celebrated authors and poets, including Edgar Allan Poe, Ernest Hemingway, Dr. Seuss, and many others. Each piece has been taken from the page and arranged to be performed in a theatrical fashion, creating a captivating experience of humor, suspense, wit, and emotion. From the haunting melancholy of Poe, the sharp realism of Hemingway, the whimsical charm of Dahl, and so much more. Join us on Thursday, March 27th for a fresh and unforgettable storytelling experience.

Iris Festival Pageant
April 26 at 10:30 AM

The Iris Festival Pageant will be held Saturday, April 26th at the famous Sumter Opera House for ages birth to 19 years old. Eight Iris Queens, two Overall Queens and Miss Swan Lake ride on the Iris Festival Parade float Saturday, May 17th and will be introduced at the festival. Two Overall Queens will receive $100 cash, beautiful crown, scepter, embroidered Iris sash and trophy. Numerous other awards will be given in all age groups.

April 1st is the early bird deadline and April 20th is the final deadline to enter. Applications are online at www.irisfestival.org or email the director, janepprivette@gmail.com.  

The Iris Festival is a Top 20 Southeast Festival and South Carolina’s longest-running festival. It is one of the Southeast’s most celebrated events!

Mary Poppins, Jr.

​Wilson Hall Theater Department presents Mary Poppins Jr. - a delightful stage adaptation of the classic Disney movie and P.L. Travers’ book series. Set in Edwardian London, the story follows the Banks family, whose lives change when the magical Mary Poppins becomes their nanny. With her charming friend Bert, Mary takes Jane and Michael on extraordinary adventures, teaching them lessons about love, kindness, and family. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Banks rediscover balance and connection in their hectic lives. Featuring beloved songs like "A Spoonful of Sugar," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," and "Step in Time," Mary Poppins Jr. is a heartwarming, family-friendly tale filled with music, magic, and timeless messages.

Tribute to the Women of Soul

A Tribute to the Women of Soul honors some of the artist who inspired her such as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and more.. You don’t want to miss this Experience. Moonless International
Film Festival

The Moonless International Film Festival is a prestigious global event celebrating excellence in film, music videos, screenwriting, and songwriting. The festival honors creative talent from around the world, providing a platform for both emerging and established artists to gain recognition and connect with audiences. Howard Blackwell
March 20 at 7:30 PM

Coastal Family Vacation Foundation invites you to spend “A Magical Evening with Mentalist Howard Blackwell”. Blackwell, a Tennessee native, has traveled the world performing his unique brand of magic, wowing audiences in over 19 different countries and countless military bases around the world. His quick wit and fun personality, mixed with unbelievable mind reading, makes him one of the Southeast’s most sought-after entertainers. He has appeared on the History Channel's Pawn Stars, SYFY Channel and also on Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Blackwell’s mesmerizing performance promises thrilling illusions certain to entertain, confound, and inspire. Spend a captivating evening filled with laughter while helping raise funds for South Carolina residents battling cancer. City Centre doors will open at 5:30 with fun activities including raffles, local vendors, and refreshments. VIP ticket holders have access to the pre-show Meet + Greet with Howard at 6:30. Showtime 7:30.

We Built This City
Sumter Civic Dance Company
April 12  at 1 PM & 5 PM

This performance features the talent and hard work of the Sumter Civic Dance Company which is the Freed School of Performing Arts' in-house dance company. This diverse concert features all forms of dance under the direction of Andrea Govier, Artistic Director. Guest choreographers include Toni McCray, Caitlin Stewart, Emily Porter, Kimberly Barrett, and Andrea Freed-Levenson, who founded the dance company 45 years ago. Additionally, the Freed School is entering its 70th year in business as the first dance studio in Sumter, hence this year's theme, "We Built This City!"​​

Liberty STEAM Movie Night
March 25 at 6 PM

Join us for a fun-filled Liberty STEAM Charter School Movie Night at the Sumter Opera House! Liberty Kindergarten students and their families are invited to enjoy a special evening with a family-friendly film. Delight in tasty concessions, including popcorn, and more. The event kicks off with a warm Liberty welcome where families can meet the EAGLE! Come for the movie, stay for the fun, and create lasting memories with your fellow Liberty families!
